The principles behind Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) are closely related to SLM. Again metal powder is added layer-by-layer to form the finished part, but the laser power is not high enough to completely melt the small metal particles. Instead, only the surface is melted, fusing the metal particles together in a porous fashion. Optionally, the finished part can subsequently be infiltrated with another material to form a denser part.
